On encountering issues with import or the file does not open after that, you should attempt to open the file using the file menu option as, file –open outlook data file. If this works you would be able to access data from the system in most of all easy manner as usual.

If not, a new profile should be created & the former one deleted. After this attach the PST to be accessed with the new profile & if its works, its good that you could use the file the way supposed to.

However, if the PST file imported is severely damaged, Microsoft outlook recommends using the scanpst.exe utility for scan & analyze the file for error & repair it accordingly. Besides this, i.e. if the tool does not help fix it off use PST repair software that would scan the file & repair the errors effectively.
